ROOTS: Canada

Nederland heeft me geopend.

“Now that I live here, I know exactly what I’ve been missing all along.”

ROOTS: Canada

There’s something really special about an international community such as Almere has.
Something binding about it, something genial, good natured.
You’re building something together, to make a bigger whole.
A ‘family’ of friends and neighbours.
Now that I live here, I know exactly what I’ve been missing all along.
All this time, I just wanted to be part of a community.
You have to be open to the possibility of that.
You have to open yourself and be open to others.
It never used to work for me.
The Netherlands has opened me right up.
I’m convinced of this being my home for a good while yet.
I’ve been away from Canada for twenty years now, going from place to place.
The words, ‘roots’ and ‘stability’ can only be used relatively in my case.
I’m still looking for that, and I hope to find it.
Just for our children’s sake.
