“Almere voelt steeds meer aan als mijn Almere”

Er is hier frisse lucht.
Veel groen, ruimte, open plekken.
Dat ben ik niet gewend.
In Hongkong komen de muren zowat op je af.
Deze ‘ademvrijheid’ is heerlijk.
Er is ineens zelfs plek en ruimte voor een eigen huis.
Het gaat van idee naar papier.
Van papier naar steen.
Van steen naar muur.
Terwijl ik bouw aan een nieuw huis, bouwt ook mijn netwerk zich langzaam op.
Ik vind veel steun binnen de Hongkongse community.
Samen met hen kan ik bijvoorbeeld nog steeds Chinees nieuwjaar vieren.
Almere voelt steeds meer aan als mijn Almere.
Er wordt gebouwd en gebouwd.
En dan is het plotseling af.
Mijn eigen thuis in Almere.

So much fresh air here.
Lots of greenery, space, wide open places.
I’m not used to that.
In Hong Kong, you have walls all around you.
This freedom to just breathe is delightful.
There’s even, suddenly, room to build our own house.
First it’s just a idea, then it’s all down on paper.
Then from paper, to bricks and mortar.
From there comes walls.
As I build a new house, so my network of friends also builds up, slowly but surely.
I get loads of support from within the Hong Kong community here.
With them, I’m still able to celebrate the Chinese New Year, for instance.
Almere feels more and more like my Almere.
We build and we keep building.
All of a sudden, it’s finished.
